The book is titled Evil’s First Breath. It’s about the origin of evil and how intimacy with God is the way to overcome. So without further ado, Michael, thank you so much for joining us on Release Tap Reveal Purpose.
What an honor, Sylvia. I am looking forward to our discussion a great deal.
I am too. And for the listeners listening on the other side, the enemy was hard at work prior to this interview, trying to stop us from meeting. There were so many things that went wrong prior to the recording that I texted Michael and said, start praying because he obviously does not want the two of us to talk and to share. Because what we have to say will break some generational cycles and chains that families have been battling for generations.
Well said.
So tell us how you landed in this place of writing this book and why now?
Well, I certainly didn’t plan it. 35 years ago, I had a vision. I wasn’t even doing anything spiritual at the moment. And it just came upon me and I just saw like a panoramic view, like it was a Moviola. And I saw it. I didn’t know what to do with it. Um, so for seven years I didn’t do anything with it, but I would continue to have these little scenes popping up through my mind, and then finally decided to write it into the form of a church drama, which we performed in our church. 167 people gave their lives to Christ. We packed out the church for four nights, did a sequel the next year, packed out the church again for four nights, and another 135 people came to Christ. This is in a small community where there wasn’t, there’s not a huge amount of people.
So well, that’s amazing that 35, like 35 years ago you had this vision. Are you a seer?
No, I wouldn’t say that at all. That was uh it was I I haven’t had a huge amount of experiences like that. I mean, I have I’ve had many spiritual experiences, and I’ve I have dealt with uh the enemy and casting out uh demon spirits as the the word talks about doing as part of the Great Commission in Mark chapter 16. But I I wouldn’t say that it that’s uh that’s an often uh occur occurrence. Okay.
Is that an often occurrence? I’ve had some visions. He came to me in 2023 and kind of shared with me what the enemy was doing in my marriage because for a long time I believed my husband was the enemy. And the Lord was he was like, Nope, he is not. Let me show you his vision. And he went and showed everything to me that had been occurring. Wow, my eyes were opened, and he said, I need you to fight. I need you to fight like the warrior that you are. You have been equipped. I have equipped you. You need to start finding your identity in me.
Beautiful.
And I thought, okay, but that’s a tall order.
Yes.
So let’s break it down for the listeners, Michael, because some of this is very high level. Tell us about that journey to this place now and the wisdom that the Lord has shared with you.
Well, I think just talking about your experience, what you just share with me, is a beautiful illustration of the message of the book. I mean, that’s the intimacy of the Holy Spirit. The Bible tells us in John 16, 13, the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth and shows us things to come. That’s for every believer. But it sounds like you had also one of the gifts of the Spirit, discerning of spirits, where your eyes were open. But you you took that, he warns you, he lets you know how to do battle, you did battle, and the the victory was won. Perfect.
Well, yes and no, because sometimes we fall into little patterns of being, right? We have an old identity. Even Paul talks about this in the New Testament. He’s like, Why do you want to turn and look at the past? You know, you you look at um Lot’s wife that turned and turned into a pillar of salt in the Old Testament because the Lord does not want us to look to our past and stay there. He wants us the past is for perspective only of this is how the enemy attacks. Right? We look at it in Job. This is clearly how Satan attacks. He attacks identity in him. And and he’s very good at it too. Uh in fact, when I when I’ve fought with people that I’ve loved, I’ve known he’s in the room when their name calling starts. Now, oh my goodness, that is the enemy in the room. And in that in those moments, one of the strategies that I was shown by the Lord and by other people around my community of believers is in that moment stop and pray. Just start praying, start using the word. It is the only weapon that the enemy understands.
Beautiful.
And when you banish him, he has to leave. You say in the name of Jesus, leave my presence, he has to go because that name carries authority over him. That name carries sovereignty over him. I think in this season of wilderness I’m in, the Lord had me as a student to trust in his sovereignty and then gave me the challenges that I have faced, which I can’t reveal publicly because they involve other people’s lives and other and details of their lives that I have no permission to release on air. But I will say that it was there were attacks coming from everywhere. And I think in those moments, this is where people feel like God has abandoned them. Can you talk a little bit more about that subject?
Sure. Um, intimacy is an invitation from God that we get every day. And what evil’s first breath is, is by going back to the beginning, evil did not begin in the Garden of Eden. It began prior to the creation of man. And so when you go back to the beginning and you using first principle thinking, once you see the the how something began, and the and in this case, the essence of pride, the strength of that, and it’s pride that keeps us um from asking God for help. It’s from from it keeps us uh uh away from intimacy. The the Bible says it says God resists the proud, but he gives grace to the humble.
And so really that is the thing to remember is humility. But in this day and age, Michael, tell me more about how people can practice more humility.
Well, the interestingly enough, that that’s a great question, Sylvie, because I once thought that humility was was turned out really to be false humility. It was just, it was putting myself down in the presence of another person in such a way where it would maybe make them feel comfortable because I’m just but it’s that’s not it at all. And it shows up in the Bible in 1 Peter 5, 7, and I love the amplified version of this, where the Bible says, and it’s talking about pride, and it concludes by casting the whole of your care once and for all on him. And there are some times when throughout the day, you’re gonna have to cast the same care over on the Lord over and over and over again. And this is this is the this is such a beautiful way to to defeat um uh and and to walk in the real humility of God.
That’s a great answer. It really is, because it made me think of several examples that the Lord has been pointing me towards.
Back in 2025, late 2024, I had lost my father to uh the brain tumor that he developed from his service in Vietnam. And for the very first time was watching Passion of the Christ. I had never watched that film.
Intense.
Very intense. And there’s a scene where he can’t go further, and he’s on the floor and and the cross is on him, and in that moment I remember thinking, and I knew this was the Holy Spirit guiding, I want to be more like you. I want to have your your humility. And what transpired in 2025 was the following. I asked him, how how do I do this? And he said, Look at the scripture you have in your war room. And in those years, I would go into a word closet and I would pray, and I had I had scripture up on the walls.
Beautiful understanding.
He goes, Your answer’s there. So just look at it, you I will give you the answer. But just I need you to read through that scripture again. And there was scripture from Job. And the scripture was look at the sin in the in your tent. And I understood that. Look at the sin in your heart. And a lot of these things, like all the then the download started, and I I had a notebook luckily in the room, and I started joting names down. And he said, These are the names of the people that you owe an apology to.
Wow.
Because you have been keeping a record of wrongs against them. And some of the people on the list, Michael, were people that have re that have tremendously wounded me.
Wow.
Horribly, horribly wounded me. And it took me a couple of rounds. I started, I remember my training from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals from long ago, that they they taught us how to when you had a new sales message to pitch, you always wanted to find the people that were your friends to pitch those two. So on that list, I looked at the people that I had deeper connections with and I practiced on them the first couple of rounds, right? So by the time I got to the harder names on that list, I had practiced because this takes practice, right? It takes doing, it takes action because the Lord will reveal you’ll become aware as a result of that revelation, but now it’s up to you whether you’re actually going to obey him and do the action that he’s asking you to do. And all of 2025 was practicing humility. In this season of wilderness, he’s got me in, he has shown me very gently my selfish ways. And I have seen it now through his eyes.
Wow.
And so now he had asked me to go back and read all of Job. I’m almost done with Job because you have to go slowly in that book or you miss everything. And I had the recommendation from a very good buddy of mine, also a woman of Christ’s heart, uh, Denise Milianta, she’s a podcast host and guest, and she told me, Sylvia, get the life application uh Bible. Because number one, it has larger fonts. And it in my age, I’ve got to, I need larger fonts, but it also has explanations from scholars on these chapters. Because what happens with older texts is that there could be a lot of miscommunication, misinterpretation of these things. You need to understand the context of when these books were written and the advice given by the three friends, right? So I found myself as one of the friends, I found myself in Job. And this morning, precisely, I started to kind of come out of it felt like I was coming out of that fog of wilderness that I’ve been in that has been attack, attack, attack, but lots of revelations, right? And so the humility piece, going back to the original question, is that when when the Lord asks you to do something humbly, it means really looking at Jesus’ example. How would He address this situation? What would he say? How would he say it? What’s the posture like? And it’s always a posture of humility and of servant leader. And I always see Christ just kneeling, washing the disciples’ feet. And it’s always a good visual for someone like me so that I remind myself, I I wake up and I’m spiritually poor every day. There is no way I’m up to his standards because he’s perfect and I am not. I’m gonna make mistakes, but it’s how we learn from these mistakes that I think is the journey of life. What’s your perspective on that?
Well, Jesus would so many times, and it comes out the best in the Gospel of John, where he says, I’ll do nothing apart from my Father’s will. So he’s he’s part of the Trinity. He’s God in the flesh, but he is continually casting his care back on the Lord and casting his insights and whatever. I’m not going to do anything other than what the Father tells me to do. So this is our this is our posture in prayer. And you started off the podcast beautifully as we were talking before we we got on camera. And that is that we we want to let God in. And this is this kind of goes back to the first major uh illumination that I had 20 years after being in ministry, where I was trying to wow God with my uh intense zeal, when in reality I wasn’t learning how to receive. I wasn’t learning how to humbly cast my cares on Him. And it was a revelation of Galatians 2.20, where I’m crucified with Christ. No, though, nevertheless, I live yet, not I, but Christ lives in me. There’s a lot of eyes in that verse. One of the eyes dies, and you mentioned that, you know, selfishness, and I mentioned the pride. So pride and selfishness are two ringleaders. And then you could go on with fear and worry and anxiety. These are these are all forces that the enemy uses to bring us down. So um, and I have to, you know, I’m a I’m a pastor and a teacher. Um, so uh I have to be careful that I don’t go too long with my responses in these podcasts. So I purposely try to cut my answers short, and I went a little longer there. You just brought it out of me, Sylvia.
The thing is, this is to shine your light, this podcast interview. So I’m I pipe in only when I believe I can add value.
Okay.
Right. So I really want to understand the message from the book. Can you dive deeply into the main theme, the topics that you discuss, and why you believe that prayer, and I think it was meditation that you said would be, and that intimacy with the Lord is really what all of us need to be doing.
Well, in the vision, we we we only have three texts, and that’s in Ezekiel, Isaiah, and Revelation about the origin of evil. So I could have written a nonfiction book and just laid out the the the origin of evil very, very quickly. But it came to me in a vision, and I know the way it came to me was in a way that I would understand it. That’s what the that’s what the voice told to told me. And so there’s things in there that I know is just entertainment to keep people’s um interest in it. But there’s nothing unscriptural, in my opinion, my humble opinion. Somebody can can identify what they think, and I will, I will have that discussion with them. But but there’s a lot of uh, you know, you you go to the head with a point and then to the heart with a story. And so what this is, is going to the heart with the storyline of the characters involved and what it easily could have looked like um when all of this unfolded. So Lucifer, Gabriel, archangels, uh, and Michael, all archangels, but what happened between those three? And so the story unfolds that. And then um, what was going on in heaven? Lucifer was irresponsible to his leadership even prior to his decision to exalt his throne against God. So what did that, how did that cause a ripple of problems? Because some of the the angels were not going deeper in God. And I think the assumption is we assume that angels have just got it all together, when in reality, according to scripture, we will someday judge the angels. So angels have uh an ability to choose a free will, just like humans do. Um, angels have a different have a different role. But so this tells about the spiritual problems in heaven that that resulted because of this slow uh rebellion that Lucifer went through. And then as it unfolds, then the battle scenes and and and so forth. So that’s the core of it. It it it was an invitation by God for the uh angels that were loyal to him to become intimate with him and to allow him to live his life through them. Angels need to depend upon God just like humans do. So that’s the story. And we, there’s so much to learn from the origin of evil. Uh, you know, Elon Musk has made that term famous uh by using first principle thinking in uh SpaceX and in Tesla. Uh, but we can use first principle thinking going back to the beginning of anything if we want to better understand. And if we hope to overcome evil’s first breath into our life, what the that those first premonitions that that take us away from God, then we need to go back to the beginning and see what tripped up uh Lucifer.
That’s a great overview. But the one question that the Lord is asking me to ask is what is first First principle thinking, can you give a definition of that for those listening?
Yes. First principle thinking is instead of drawing on just what others have said, and I’ll use the illustration with the rockets. What Elon Musk did is he went back to what is a rocket actually made of. And he went back to the basic element, the basic stuff that a rocket and uh that a rocket was made of. And out of that, he was able to develop and uh cheaper rockets, which has enabled him to be able to do what he’s done much cheaper than NASA was doing. And uh, so that is what we need to do, is we need to go back to the beginning. And I believe God gave this message. And why I didn’t write it 35 years ago, I don’t believe I was ready to completely take it all in. And every day when I sat down, I would, I would cry out because my very first book, The Miracle Exchange, was learning how to exchange my um limitations for God’s lack of limitations. So I would just say, Jesus, this is your book, this is your idea from the beginning. Write this book through me with all of the, with all of the storyline and all of the character dynamics that you want it to be. So I was believing for that every step of the way. And many nights I’d go to bed crying because of what I was learning as I was writing down the words. So um pretty, pretty, pretty remarkable experience in that sense. But it’s that first principle thinking that has changed the dynamics of so much of how I how I pray and realizing the place of pride and how subtle that it is and how it sneaks in in ways that you don’t even realize, and so forth.
Wow. Lots to unpack. Let me just say this. But thank you for the definition on first principle thinking, because it’s important for those listening to be able to follow this conversation. I know you put off writing this book, and you did mention somewhere in this that you just couldn’t get yourself writing because you were not ready. So, how did God equip you to write the book now? What was it that He, what was your journey like that equipped you to write this book?
Well, I think it was the crisis 20 years after, after I was uh a Christian and while I was in in in ministry and doing so much ministry in my own strength that I began to say, okay, Lord, clearly I’m doing something wrong. And I I don’t need to be looking and blaming anybody else. I need to I want to look at Michael. And so show me the wicked ways within me. And the the biggest one was my uh independence of my doing things in my own strength and just not being intimate with God and involving him, not having moment-by-moment fellowship with the Holy Spirit, asking his opinion and listening. And so then, you know, once once you see that, or once I saw that that darkness, uh then I was um I was on the journey of learning how to teach and let Jesus teach through me. Now, now nobody’s perfect, so I don’t want to imply that when I what I say is going to be perfectly pure Jesus, but to the best that I can yield and surrender and let him teach through me and be filled with the Holy Spirit is the is the goal and the objective. And so through that, I I was set up better to be able to know how, to have great certainty with no hesitation, that that the enemy could in no way hinder this message. Because let’s face it, I’m exposing Lucifer. And so perhaps 35 years ago, I would have been a basket case had I taken the vision right then and wrote it out. But I knew this fall that I would be in disobedience if I didn’t, if I didn’t do what, uh write out what God had given me. I had to be, as you referred to earlier, I had to be a doer of the word.
So why this fall? You’re mentioning and you’re alluding to something. What was happening?
Well, it was there was a transition going on in my life where uh I knew that that God was calling me to something that I didn’t, I didn’t understand a year earlier. And so, and it’s in that process that I was just doing a lot of praying, a certain amount of fasting and asking the Lord. And it’s through that that He took me back to about first principle. He took me back to the beginning. Because you think about it, I’ve been in in ministry for over 40 years. This vision came 35 years ago. So it’s been around almost as long as I’ve been involved in serving the Lord. Uh, but but once again, it’s so beautiful. It’s the mastery of God, of how he gives you something, and that it’s he steers you in the direction where you can fulfill it, and you don’t even realize what all the things that are happening that’s preparing you. But I have a uh whatever spiritual warfare I’m I face today, I have a, I can just sit back and I can laugh and I can smile because I know my identity in Christ. I know I’m a child of God. I’m a joint heir with Jesus Christ. I am one with God. And so there is no, there is no, there is no fear. He he’s going to be exposed more through this book simply because it’s God’s choice. And God’s vessel is ready to bring the truth and by his God’s grace daily. If I I know it has to be a daily surrender to him, but I will be just fine as I continue to talk about this and get the word out to as many of God’s people as I possibly can. And we think, too, we and the publisher, we feel like because of early impact that we’re getting, there’s a lot of unbelievers that are that are interesting that are buying into this book. Because they love the story, and that’s exactly what I had had wanted and hoped would occur is that many people would come to Christ, many backsliders would would get back and tight with the Lord, many people who are lukewarm as Christians would get on fire for God. And the people that are mature and solid Christians, they are fascinated with it too, because it’s showing them the unseen realm in ways that they didn’t understand before. And they’re utilizing scriptures like that they are ministering spirits sent to minister for us heirs and salvation. That’s in Hebrews 1.14.
So it’s music to my ears in that the mission that he brought me out of retirement for from medical sales was precisely to bring him back. Bring his sheep back to him.
Wow.
And I did it through the first manuscript uh that I wrote in pub self-published in 2021. And the second edition released the same year my father passed away. Just like three months or two months after it was released. And of course, we know that the Lord is with us when we are in mission to reveal the truth of his message because ultimately he’s the author. He’s working through us, right? Within us. He is within us, lives in us. And when we when we invite him in that intimate conversation of there came a point in the manuscript, the very first manuscript, I was like, what am I gonna write about? Like, who am I? I’m not someone with authority in like theology, you know, degree or anything like that.
Sure.
So why are you picking me?
Right.
And he kind of reminded me of Peter, who was once Simon, who was a thief, right? And then he was like, look at Saul that then became Paul. Now, the difference between these two is that Saul was an educated, highly educated man, he was a lawyer who was persecuting him and his ministry and the word, even though he claimed to have the religion,
right? And so for a long time, Michael, and I don’t know if you have felt like this in your own journey, I have to be very clear with people is I don’t follow a religion, I have relationship with him.
Amen.
That is what I’m after. When I’m talking to people, is I I don’t care if you’re Catholic, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Muslim, I don’t care who you are. The question will always be do you invite him? Do you talk to him? Yeah, you ask his opinion.
Right.
Do you include him? Because I think we’re missing out.
Of course we are.
He sees everything. He knows your heart and he can see the heart of the person you you’re in conflict with. And you mentioned or alluded to this, but I’m going to say this for the listeners. Our Lord can harden our heart and can blind us the way he blinded Paul for three days. In that, there are times that we cannot see in front of us because he doesn’t want us to see just yet. Because we’re not equipped to release the information yet. We have to understand what the process is so that we can turn around and guide others through that process. If you don’t understand the journey, you can’t explain it. And then it looks false and it sounds false. And he knows that it will sound false to his children. He knows their heart very well. So can we break this down for them, Michael? Let’s talk about how we can invite the Lord in. Let’s let’s look at this practically for those listening.
Okay. And I just to add on to what you were just saying there, I couldn’t help but think of the scripture in Colossians, where my life is hidden with Christ in God. So He can keep us hidden until we’re ready to be exalted. He exalts us in due time, according to Scripture. So breaking it down, the essential, the essential, there was a there’s a hologram in the that one of the angels created, which was the people could, the angels could take with them, and it would tell them how much, what percentage they were set surrendering and depending upon God. And it was a fascinating part of the book because I’m trying to, which God is trying to get across the importance of letting God fight the battles of your life through you, instead of you trying to do it in your own strength. So that’s a central core message. So what can you do in a practical sense? I believe going back to Galatians 2.20 and taking that verse and really, really meditating on it because it is packed full. And it’s the same, it’s the same verse, the same theme as uh John 15, abide in me and I in you, as a branch cannot bear fruit of itself. And of course, Jesus concludes that with, without me, you can do nothing. Can we really believe that and just settle the issue? Without you, Jesus, I can do nothing. Uh, and and so that that core message. And then the other core message is while the angels are are battling, there were certain angels that were, that were, that had a spirit of prayer. They’re like six of them total. Two groups of three, what I called feminine angels. And I don’t want if I if I get into talking about that, it’s a it’s an an interesting part, but it’s the way, it’s the way I saw it. But their prayer was huge in making a big difference. And so I I believe that part of yielding and letting God live his life through us is also enhancing our prayer life. So those are two practical things, is just giving more, giving more opportunity to God to talk to us by prayer. I mean, we’re supposed to pray without ceasing, so at least have some set us set aside time where you pray and acknowledge that God is your king and your Lord.
I love that. And I’ll add gratitude to that. Because gratitude, speaking of how the enemy attacks, he attacks through anxiety and stress and identity.
Yeah.
And we know through Paul’s writings that anxiety and gratefulness cannot exist, coexist together.
Are you sure you haven’t already read this book for heaven’s sakes?
No, I haven’t read your book.
You just hit on another principle of the power of gratitude and praise, which is that actually creates an atmosphere. And that I’ll now I won’t give away and tell what how that unfolded in the book, but that that would create atmosphere where the angels could fight. So I had to jump in there.
Well, yes, because it is the one thing that I had been, the Lord has been reminding me of in recent days. Sylvia, gratitude. Go back to your gratitude practice. I let it go because it started to cause toxic positivity in me. And that is something that my husband pointed out to. And I think it’s because we were on different spiritual journeys. He’s he’s matured immensely after that incident in 2021 because he started to get more intimate with the Lord. And he’s he had this revelation that he was very self-reliant. And I think that’s a topic that men deal with immensely because they’re given culturally the role of protector and provider. And so it’s like they can only rely on themselves and they forget the Lord in this piece. But going back to gratitude, which is what brought me on this side tangent, so I apologize. Uh, the gratitude piece is something that we often overlook because our minds have a negative bias. And as a certified life coach, I can say that with some level of authority, the mind will always want to go to the negative. And the culture and the programming and the modeling, all of it is negative. So one practical way is to do a gratitude journaling, but include verses from scripture because the verses from scripture you can’t twist and turn.
Right.
The only one that can twist and turn it is the enemy. But when you are standing firmly in your identity in him, it’s very hard for the enemy to press on. He’ll get tired. He gets tired too.
So one of the things that I’ve that the Lord has been prompting in me is just in the I’m starting a 40-day gratitude challenge on August 31st on my social media channels.
Right.
And so what I’m gonna do is I’m going to say one thing I’m grateful for that day. I’m gonna include a verse from the Bible that speaks to God’s goodness. Because I think people forget just how faithful and good he is.
Right.
Because their minds and the enemy who is always prowling. In fact, in the first verse, a couple of verses of Job, and when the Lord asks Satan, like, What are you doing up here? Or where where have you been? Well, I’ve been prowling on the earth. So he prowls to see who is in in prime condition for him to twist and turn the truth of the word of God.
Right.
You really need to understand scripture very well, and because when you read it, you see his character shine through.
Right.
And then nobody can really dispute that, right? Because it’s on black and white. That’s it. It’s the truth. He is the truth, he is the word, he is the life and the light. And so I’m just blessed, Michael, that you and I got to speak on these very important topics. But at Evil’s First Breath, there’s uh there’s a series of other tapes. I give away a lot more stuff. Everything on my website is is given away. So it’s there’s lots of teaching there that people can can draw from. There’s interviews you can you can scroll down to the bottom and read what 35 other people have already said about the book. It’s right there, uh, as well as one other interview. I’m just starting to do interviews. This is this is early, early on. So I’m just beginning this process. Book’s only been out for a month. Um so that would be the first place. And then everything that’s available is going to be from book distributors. So you can go to Amazon, and it’s been out there uh enough where I’ve got actually up 24 reviews on Amazon as well that you can that you can read. So the the audio book is available at Amazon as well as the ebook. And I made the ebook very inexpensive because I do a lot of missions trips, and I want those people, precious people overseas, um, to be able to get that book. So it’s and then the and then the the regular paperback. So Amazon’s where you go to to get it, and then you but you can get a lot of free resources at my website.

Um Well, the the book has a very happy ending, just like God wants every one of your listeners’ lives to have a happy, He wants us to all finish strong. And we can take, we can take the lessons from evil’s first breath, where evil began, and we can we can get that sneak preview of it, and we can put a stop to evil having any kind of a first influence in our life. And we can learn how to respond in love and gratitude and dependency on God instead of dependency on ourselves and falling into anxiety and fear and all of the negative forces that the enemy uses.
